2028 Ford Bronco Review, Redesign, Engine – Like its equine namesake, the Ford Bronco SUV is remote from household. It can launch, plunging into the wilds and, with its top and gates released, make you sense as unrestrained and unencumbered as a fantastic horse as you pull through the woods or leap over dunes. Unlike its namesake, yet, this SUV stands painless to retain, and unless you tread on the brakes or fail to ride off four-wheel industry, it won’t twitch. It’s also much better-mannered on the highway than its archrival, the Jeep Wrangler.

A 300-hp turbocharged four-cylinder and a 330-hp twin-turbo V6 are available, along with a manual transmission (only offered with the four-cylinder) and multiple packages that add increasing amounts of off-road gear and overlanding power. The interior is utility-focused, troubled by excessive wind noise, and challenging to style, but it’s modern, reasonably comfortable, and spacious.

Exterior & Interior

The Ford Bronco makes a lasting first impression as it rolls down the road. It’s big, blocky, and—in my tester’s Wildtrak Sasquatch trim—it’s riding on some very beefy all-terrain tires, with a fifth one hit onto the rear cargo gate.

It darts ready for adventure right off the stick, and behind decades of staring at more or less the same, it’s a welcome complement to the mall-crawling cartel. Even in a natural shade like silver, the Bronco can’t help but stand out.

The interior is more hit-or-miss. The primary issue is materials—while I understand the desire to weatherproof everything given its open-air character, this Bronco costs $58,420 out the door, including goal, and contains better plastic than my. That said, everything’s put in a smart, easy-to-reach location, whether it’s the inboard window switches or the differential disconnects atop the dashboard. Engine & Performance

My Wildtrak-trim tester features the more powerful of the two available engines, a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that constructs 330 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Even with a Raptor bar on the path, this V6 creates the Bronco scoot, releasing a pleasant note as it shoves itself forth. Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission smoothly transitions through the gears, about as imperceptibly as the Bronco’s stop-start system operates. Everything comes together very nicely until you reach the EPA fuel economy estimates. Sasquatch variants are rated the most harmful of any Bronco, with 17 mpg in city, highway, and combined fuel efficiency. Sadly, I wasn’t able to do much better than those numbers, either, although a light ground may fetch highway values up a smidge, to 18 or 19.
